Hi!! Thank you so much for this sweet message! Well— originally when I was writing Abyss, the haunted girl was normal before a near-death experience, at which point she became “stuck” in-between two worlds. I know the film is very mysterious as it is now, and at this point I consider it more art & expression rather than direct narrative. Amazingly, the scar is a real scar on the actress (her name is Kay Kasparhauser/Goldberg - look up her band The Prettiots!). So, keeping that shot of her scar was a reference to my original concept, as well as enhancing the feeling of pain, and death & its mysteries at the film’s climax. I don’t want to “spoil” the ending for people who haven’t watched Abyss, so read no further if you haven’t experienced it yet —

Hi everybody!! I have exciting news!
The past few months have been keeping me very busy — in December, my short film Abyss won Best Film at the 30Under30 Film Festival, whose organizers are affiliated with Tribeca Film Festival. It was amazing! I won a subscription to Squarespace, a really cool website builder, so I completely re-did my website as well, please take a look —www.darianbrenner.com ♡ I love it and I hope you do too!
And more good news — Abyss is now available to watch online to celebrate the release of my new website!! The direct link is here: http://www.darianbrenner.com/short-films/#/abyss/ Now you can finally share my film with your family, friends, and financiers! ;) Haha ♡
Finally, my biggest news of all: Abyss will be screening again in Manhattan at the NYC Downtown Short Film Festival on Wednesday, June 18th at 8pm, and I want to invite all of you to come join me! I’m finished with my festival submissions so it may be the last public screening of Abyss — that means now’s your chance to come see it on the big screen, if you are in the NY area! :)
Tickets are $15 online at Smarttix.com, and Abyss is only screening on Wednesday, June 18th so make sure you pick the right date in the drop-down menu :)
And this is only the beginning — I’m writing every day, and planning — no, concocting my next projects, like a mad scientist! I have some very BIG ideas! I also have a series of music videos that will be released by the end of the summer, so if you can’t make it to the screening, don’t worry — there’s plenty more where that came from!
Thank you all so much again for your continued love and support. My art would mean nothing without people to share it with. Every day I’m thankful that my passion to create is appreciated by people all around the world! So, thank you so much, and I hope to see you at the screening on June 18th!
XOXO,
Darian
