i don’t think it’s productive for anyone to rely on drug-induced states for creative inspiration. i feel like some the best work comes from being aware of the world and the human condition and what’s happening in life (especially in storytelling mediums like film), so the work that comes from reality is still relatable even if it seems so remote and weird on the surface like some of my work does. and while drugs may have the ability to tap into a deeper sense of your surroundings, more often they just cloud and distract or numb you out, which people need sometimes but personally i don’t think that’s the best state to be in for making art. if you really pay attention, there’s so much inspiring shit in nature and love and suffering, everything. plus the world is sometimes just fuckin weird and trippy to begin with (ex: deep sea creatures?? nicki minaj????)
